The benefits of Laparoscopic Surgery or Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) are well known:
- Less time in the operating room, recovery room, and hospital
- Less downtime with a quicker return to normal activities
However, use of traditional carbon dioxide gas for insufflation has been proven to compromise such benefits, leading to:
- Increased inflammatory response
- Increased post-operative shoulder pain
- Increased post-operative abdominal pain
- Increased hypothermia
- Increased time in recovery
Why?
It’s simple. Traditional carbon dioxide (CO2) gas used for insufflation is cold and dry. Delivery of cold CO2 is approximately 70oF, far below normal body temperature of 98oF. Delivery of dry CO2 at 0% relative humidity is 10,000x drier than the Sahara Desert. Delivery of cold, dry CO2 creates an environment that is extremely unnatural within the warm, wet abdomen.
Cold, dry CO2 gas contributes to cell desiccation of peritoneal tissue at an accelerated rate and increases inflammatory response, post-operative pain and hypothermia for laparoscopic patients.
By contrast, the Insuflow® Device warms and humidifies CO2 gas to 95oF and 95% relative humidity and provides patients with a quicker recovery both at the hospital and at home.
WARM AND WET IS BETTER THAN COLD OR DRY.
Review the studies, get the proof. See for yourself the difference it makes when CO2 gas is warmed and humidified during laparoscopic surgery.
MORE OF THE RIGHT THINGS.
More warmth with moisture allows longer procedures.
More safe, effective time for the surgeon.
More warmth of core of body temperature.
More protection for delicate tissue.
More comfort for the patient.
More savings overall.LESS OF WHAT NOBODY WANTS.
Less shivering and hypothermia.
Less patient pain – thus less medication.
Less nausea and inflammation.
Less damage to tissues and other organs.
Less recovery time – therefore saves money.
Less overall length of hospital stay.
